Connect Instagram
What kind of account you need, which permissions we ask for, and what we check.
Until an account is connected, the bot sees neither comments nor direct messages. Connecting is a one-time thing and takes less than a minute.
What the account must be
A professional Instagram account — business or creator. You switch that inside Instagram itself, in account settings. A personal account cannot be connected: Instagram does not give such accounts access to messaging.
How to connect
- “Settings” → “Connections” → the “Connect” button.
- Choose Instagram.
- Press “Sign in with Instagram” — an Instagram window opens.
- Sign in with the account you want to connect and allow access.
Changed your mind? Press “Cancel sign-in” under the button and the wait ends.
We always open the sign-in form, so that you pick the right account instead of silently connecting whichever one your browser is logged into.
Which permissions we ask for
Instagram asks for four things: basic profile data, direct messages, comments and insights.
Access to direct messages is required. Without it the bot can never write to anyone, so we do not save such a connection — an honest refusal beats an account that silently does nothing. The other permissions do not break the connection, but each one you skip removes something: no comments means no keyword bots under posts, no insights means no profile numbers in the connection card.
What we check while connecting
An account is only accepted if every step passed:
- Instagram granted access.
- The required permissions were given.
- The account is professional.
- The account is subscribed to events — otherwise messages and comments never reach us.
If a step fails, the account is not saved and you see what exactly went wrong.
One account, one workspace
The same Instagram account cannot stay connected in two Scriptera workspaces. If you connect an account that someone else already has, you will see a warning: “This account is already connected by another user. Connecting it here will disconnect it there.” The choice is yours — we never move anything without your consent.
How long access lasts
Instagram grants access for a limited time. We renew it ourselves; you do not have to do anything. If renewal fails, you get a notification — see When a connection breaks.
